Baby Bear Hugs changes the lives of “soon to be” parents and families with infants and toddlers in Eastern Colorado by providing parenting education, resources, and support. It is our goal that all children will become productive, happy adults who give back to their communities and that they will have every opportunity available to them to fulfill their potential, develop assets that empower them to resist failure, and have strong supportive adults in their lives. To this end, Baby Bear Hugs will provide parenting education, support, and connection to community resources to all expectant parents and families with children 0 to 3 years old. Services are at no cost to the families.

Malawi In 2006 we set our sights on accomplishing several goals. One goal is to reflect on and refocus our Malawi mission.
Malawi is a landlocked country bordering Tanzania to the north and east, Mozambique to the south, east and west, and Zambia to the west. Mzuzu, a small town with electricity, email access, shops and several schools, is located in the northern region of Malawi. The predominant illnesses in Malawi are malaria, pneumonia, anemia, malnutrition, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS-related illnesses. The average life expectancy is 35 years, which reflects the high mortality rates from malaria and HIV/AIDS.
Malawi, a relatively small country on the African continent, is poor and has suffered from drought and floods as well as the spread of HIV/AIDS. In spite of the many challenges and hardships Malawi faces, the faith of its people remains strong. With roots in the Church of Scotland, the Free Church of Scotland, and the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, the CCAP was formed in the late 1940s. Since beginning its involvement in Malawi in the 1950s, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has sent many long-term and short-term mission personnel to serve in the country. The Synod of Livingstonia, one of four synods of the CCAP, grew out of a mission station founded in 1875 and named in honor of David Livingstone, the famed Scottish Presbyterian missionary.
Every year our congregation joins Christians around the world in celebrating World Communion Sunday. Born in a time of international unrest as nations were about to enter another world war, World Communion Sunday’s central focus is the Lord’s Supper instituted by Christ and its unifying message for all who partake of it. We are one in Christ Jesus, and not to be separated by the nations, ethnic groups, or denominations we belong to, or for any other reason.
A brief history of Deb Heefner...
In 1980 Jesus captured my heart, and in 1987 I joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ/Cru. In my 26+ years on staff I’ve lived/served Jesus at the University of Denver; Leningrad, Russia (during the Soviet Union); Colorado State University.
After almost 21 years serving in various locations, I'm convinced that Jesus is inviting me into a new chapter of serving Him. My heart is still VERY MUCH about ministry and particularly about caring for those in full time ministry, but my location and my reporting structure is about to change. I am moving to Colorado to work with MTI (Mission Training International) which is based out of Palmer Lake. I'll still officially work for CRU (Campus Crusade), so my financial structure will remain the same, but my role will be working with MTI in the preparation and particularly the care and debriefing of missionaries from all sorts of different missions. This new role takes advantage of all my years and experience overseas, and opens the scope of my ministry beyond just CRU.
